Global automotive supplier Bosch announced on Tuesday that it plans to cut up to 1,100 additional jobs in Germany by 2029, continuing its restructuring programme in response to the ongoing difficulties facing the European car industry.

In a statement, the group cited tougher competition, price pressure and declining sales, particularly due to delays by some customers in the transition to electric vehicles.

Bosch will reorganise its large factory in Reutlingen, southern Germany, where the production of control units - which manage gearboxes - "is no longer competitive," in order to refocus it primarily on the production of semiconductors," according to the statement.

Since the end of 2023, Bosch has undertaken several waves of job cuts. Its latest announcements are in addition to 7,000 job cuts already announced last year, particularly in Germany, affecting its automotive, tools and household appliances divisions.

The group currently employs 418,000 people worldwide.

The positions targeted in the new wave of cuts include production line, development and administrative roles.

German car manufacturers and suppliers are suffering from falling global demand, rising costs, competition from China and, more recently, higher U.S. tariffs.
