A man on an electric scooter lost his life on Tuesday evening in Brussels after being hit by a car, police confirmed on Wednesday.

The accident occurred at about 22:50 at the roundabout where Avenue Van Praet meets Chaussée de Vilvorde, near the entrance to Laeken. The victim, severely injured, died at the scene despite the rapid response of emergency services, including a team from the emergency medical service. The driver of the car involved sustained minor injuries. He underwent both a breathalyser and a saliva test, which were negative.

Police established a security perimeter and set up diversions. The public prosecutor sent a traffic expert, a forensic doctor, and the technical and scientific police laboratory to the scene. The investigation continues to determine the exact circumstances of the collision.

The perimeter was lifted during the night.

Out of respect for the victim’s family, no further information will be provided, the police stated.
