Three individuals aged 21, 38, and 49 were brought before the Liège prosecutor’s office after being arrested on suspicion of assaulting a person with reduced mobility on Tuesday, around 20:30 on Saint-Léonard Street, according to a statement released by the Liège prosecutor’s office on Thursday.
The suspects approached the victim, who was using a wheelchair, and demanded money. When the victim refused, the situation escalated.
A witness reported that the three alleged perpetrators physically attacked the victim. By the time police arrived, the victim was lying on the ground with a bleeding wound at the back of their head.
The victim was taken to hospital and received a medical certificate indicating an eight-day work incapacity. The alleged attackers were detained and during their questioning claimed they had no recollection of the incident due to excessive alcohol consumption.
The Liège prosecutor’s office has requested an arrest warrant, and the case is now under investigation.
