The Brussels City Cleaning Department processed 13,852 public cleanliness complaints via the Fix My Street digital platform in the first half of the year, as announced by Public Cleanliness Councillor Anas Ben Abdelmoumen on Friday.

The majority of reports were about illegal waste dumping (11,342), non-compliant rubbish bags (1,147), and overflowing or soiled public bins (565).

The Fix My Street app and website allow users to report public space issues in Brussels, such as potholes, broken streetlights, or damaged urban furniture, and public cleanliness issues can also be reported. Users simply provide the exact location, a brief description, and an optional photo, and the report is forwarded to the relevant public service. They also receive updates on the report’s progress.

Brussels received 13,852 cleanliness complaints from January to June this year, a slight increase from the 13,504 complaints in the first half of last year.

Cleanliness-related reports via Fix My Street have been rising annually, with 18,175 logged in 2022, 23,176 in 2023, and 29,717 last year.

“Citizen reports are crucial as residents know their neighbourhoods best. Fix My Street allows easy complaint submission, enabling us to map problems accurately and provide solutions. We also ensure residents without digital access can report issues via our toll-free number (0800 90 107),” commented the councillor in a statement.
