Israeli DJ Skazi is set to perform at Tomorrowland this weekend, despite controversy over his alleged support for the Israeli army.

Festival organisers reviewed Skazi’s statements and determined that he had not expressed anything inappropriate. The artist has reportedly agreed to perform without a microphone or an Israeli flag, unlike the previous year.

Tomorrowland defends this decision, stating that Skazi’s performance at a military base following the Hamas attacks on 7 October 2023 was a tribute to the victims and missing persons. His open support for Israel in Hebrew at Tomorrowland in 2024, in front of an audience displaying numerous Israeli flags, falls within this context.

For his performance this year, festival organisers have requested Skazi refrain from making statements in Hebrew due to sensitivities, a condition the artist is said to have accepted.

In recent interviews, Skazi has not called for hate, violence, or division, Tomorrowland stated on Friday evening. “We notice that one artist out of over 850 is particularly targeted. Skazi has not violated any festival guidelines or rules. The noticeable division today is occurring outside the festival grounds. Our attendees come together for music, connection, and celebration, regardless of background.”

According to the festival, Skazi has confirmed he will perform without a microphone and without an Israeli flag. “He will only display the Tomorrowland flag on stage.”

Update:

Israeli DJ Skazi has cancelled his performance at the Tomorrowland dance festival on Saturday due to “safety concerns,” as announced on his social media and confirmed by the festival organisers.

“In light of safety concerns and my commitment to spreading only love and music, my performance at Tomorrowland has been cancelled,” DJ Skazi stated. He emphasised his priority of creating a safe and positive environment for everyone involved, conveying a message of unity, joy, and mutual respect. He expressed gratitude to his supporters and sent love to the “People of Tomorrow.”

The festival organisers expressed their appreciation and respect for DJ Skazi’s decision. They noted that, like many stakeholders, they faced questions about his performance and valued the open and thoughtful dialogue that ensued. Tomorrowland is committed to providing a safe and respectful environment for all, a core value of the festival. They maintain respect for Skazi’s musical journey and hope to hear his music at their events in the future, according to spokesperson Debby Wilmsen.

Controversy surrounded DJ Skazi’s appearance at Tomorrowland due to his support for the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF). The festival organisers reviewed his statements and concluded that he had not made any offensive comments. Although Skazi remained welcome and agreed to perform without a microphone or Israeli flag, he ultimately decided to withdraw from the event.
