A violent altercation erupted on Friday shortly after 14:00 on Avenue Paul Dejaer in Saint-Gilles following an attempted theft at a local shop.

Three individuals attempted to steal goods but were chased away by shopkeepers, according to numerous witnesses. The attackers later returned armed with metal objects and a box cutter, initiating a violent confrontation.

The two young shopkeepers sustained only minor injuries, according to the owner of the targeted shop. One of the three suspects was seriously injured in the head, as confirmed by Belga. Brussels firefighters, who responded to the incident, transported several injured individuals to the hospital, stated spokesperson Walter Derieuw.

Brussels-Midi police quickly arrived at the scene in large numbers. A safety perimeter was established around the location, close to the Barrière de Saint-Gilles junction.

The Brussels public prosecutor’s office has yet to provide details on the circumstances of the incident or any potential arrests.
