Drought conditions in Wallonia are gradually returning to normal, according to the Walloon Public Service (SPW) on Tuesday.
Rainfall from 20 to 22 July and again on 27 July has reduced the drought, and more rain is expected in the coming days.
The flow rates of both navigable and non-navigable waterways have improved, with further optimisation expected soon. Groundwater levels and reservoir dams are nearly back to normal. The risk of forest and nature fires is low.
Kayak operators have received good news, as certain sections of the Viroin, Lesse, Semois, and Ourthe rivers have reopened. However, drinking water consumption restrictions remain in place in the municipalities of Léglise, Habay-la-Neuve, and Bouillon.
The SPW’s drought cell is scheduled to meet again on 19 August to reassess the situation.
