From October 2025, Belgian flag carrier Brussels Airlines will discontinue its route to Birmingham Airport, it confirmed to The Brussels Times. This will end direct connectivity between the two cities, which first opened in 1992.

In a written statement, the airline announced that it would no longer offer a connection to Birmingham beyond the end of this year's winter season.

“We constantly review our network. At the beginning of every season, some destinations might see higher frequencies, and we might decrease capacity to some other markets,” a spokesperson explained. “In that light, we have indeed decided not to offer Birmingham anymore as of winter 2025.”

The final scheduled flight between the two cities is slated for 24 October, according to ticketing information from the Brussels Airlines website.

The airport also told The Brussels Times that it will also pause its flights to Edinburgh during the low season, suspending flights between 1 December and 12 February. The airline will maintain its services to Manchester and London Heathrow, for which it operates 13 and 20 flights per week, respectively.

This leaves the UK’s second-largest city without a direct flight to the EU de facto capital and Belgium’s capital. The move will likely come as a blow to business travellers using the route as a connection to the continent.

The route has already faced disruption in recent years. Last year, flights were suspended over the summer period. Services were subsequently reduced from ten flights per week to just six. The airline said it had previously suspended the route in order to prioritise more profitable leisure routes.
