A major road rehabilitation project on the E420 near Jumet is set to begin on Monday, 4 August, the Société de financement complémentaire des infrastructures (Sofico) announced on Thursday.

The works will lead to the closure of a section of the motorway in the direction of Charleroi for about three weeks.

The E420/A54 will be closed to traffic heading towards Charleroi from the Thiméon interchange (E42/A15 – E420/A54) to Interchange No.24 (Ransart), inclusive. Drivers heading towards Charleroi are advised to take the R3 at the Gouy interchange from Mons, at Heppignies from Namur or, from either, via the E42/A15 from Nivelles.

Interchange No. 25 (Jumet East) and No. 26 (Lodelinsart) will remain accessible.

For traffic towards Brussels on the E420/A54, two lanes will be available in a counterflow at Interchange No. 24 (Ransart), with a speed limit of 50 km/hr.

All interchanges will remain accessible in this direction, except No. 24 (Ransart).

Additionally, the slip road connecting the E42/A15 from Mons to the E420/A54 towards Brussels will be closed. Drivers wishing to head towards the capital should use the E19/A7 via the A501. It is also possible to join the E420/A54 by making a U-turn at the Gosselies interchange via the N5.

Travellers heading to Charleroi Airport should take the E42/A15 towards Namur, then use at the Heppignies interchange and take the Heppignies/Airport exit.

Furthermore, traffic on the N568/Rue des Fusillés will only be possible from Farciennes to Madeleine between the Madeleine roundabout (N5-N568) and the N568-Allée Centrale roundabout.

Access to the Jumet industrial zone will be ensured via a passage in the median strip. Drivers wishing to reach the N568 from Madeleine (N5) towards Farciennes are advised to take a diversion via the N5, E42/A15, and N29.

Sofico assures that the lanes will be cleared for the school term at the latest.
