The victim of the shooting in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean that took place on Thursday afternoon is a 17-year-old boy, according to the Brussels Public Prosecutor’s office on Friday.
The incident occurred at around 14:35 between rue de l’École and Bonnevie Park, near the police station.
Brussels-West police were alerted to a man injured in the street and found the teenager with leg injuries. Officers administered first aid until emergency services arrived, and the victim was taken to hospital.
Preliminary investigation findings suggest the shooting took place in Bonnevie Park, where bullet impacts and fragments were found, as confirmed by the Public Prosecutor.
The Prosecutor’s Office has launched several investigative measures, including the involvement of the federal police laboratory, analysis of CCTV footage, and the appointment of a ballistics expert and a forensic doctor.
According to the Laatste Nieuws, two masked individuals reportedly opened fire and fled the scene, prompting panic as the victim attempted to escape before collapsing.
The ongoing investigation aims to clarify the exact circumstances of the incident and identify the perpetrators. The Prosecutor’s Office will not provide further comments to avoid hindering the investigation.
