A 26-year-old man from Bornem has been arrested by German police at Düsseldorf Airport, according to the Rivierenland police department on Saturday afternoon.

The man faces a total prison sentence of 15 years in Belgium. “He was already arrested in Düsseldorf in June,” said police spokesperson Dirk Van de Sande.

A European arrest warrant had been issued for him. He was wanted for a prison term in Belgium of 182 months. On Wednesday, 30 July, officers from the Rivierenland police department collected the 26-year-old at the German-Belgian border.

“The man accumulated penalties for various offences,” added Van de Sande. The reason for his presence in Düsseldorf is unclear.

In the past, he was convicted in Belgium for numerous traffic violations, such as driving under the influence, possession of illegal weapons, theft, threats, and assault.

The repeat offender is now in custody at Bruges prison.
