On a train journey from Antwerp to Hasselt, a train conductor fell victim to physical aggression as an 18-year-old passenger had deodorant sprayed in his eyes following a scuffle.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning around 9:00 on an SNCB train travelling from Antwerp to Hasselt. A disagreement arose concerning the ticket of an 18-year-old passenger from Aarschot. “This led to a tussle between the train conductor and the young man,” stated Bart Crols, spokesperson for SNCB. “Subsequently, the train conductor sprayed deodorant into the passenger’s eyes. We vehemently condemn such incidents; our staff are simply performing their duties.”

The conductor’s shift ended at Zichem station, where she received medical attention. Passengers were able to transfer to another train. “A report has been filed,” said Commissioner Nick Joris from the Demerdal-DSZ police, who arrived at Zichem station. “No arrests have been made. Further investigation is needed to determine what exactly transpired before and during the physical altercation.”
