Parents of over 300,000 children in Brussels have received the annual age supplement, previously known as the back-to-school allowance, announced Iriscare, the entity responsible for managing family benefits in the Brussels-Capital Region.
More than €15 million has been distributed to help families cope with back-to-school expenses.
The school allowance amounts vary according to the child’s age, with higher payments available for 18-24-year-olds pursuing higher education.
Amounts range from €24.87 for children aged 0-5, to €99.47 for those aged 18-24 in higher education, with intermediate sums of €37.30 for ages 6-11, and €62.17 for ages 12-17 and 18-24 not in higher education.
This annual lump sum is paid once a year to parents receiving child benefits, aimed at supporting educational expenses.
Brussels families do not need to undertake specific procedures to receive the allowance; it is automatically included in the July family benefit payment, disbursed in August.
