Maintenance works in the Antwerp pre-metro tunnel will cause slight disruptions to the tram service in the area, announced the Flemish transport operator, De Lijn.

The work between the Meir and Groenplaats stops is set to start on 18 August and is expected to be concluded by 24 September. While the maintenance work will be carried out at night to minimise disruption for passengers, transport services may still be impacted.

During this maintenance work, trams on lines 3, 5, 9, and 15 will travel slower than usual through the construction zone, possibly leading to delays.

Nonetheless, De Lijn assures that the entire route will remain operational and efforts will be made to minimise the impact on services. Each direction will undergo approximately three weeks of work.

These maintenance works are not to be confused with the previously announced major renovation plans for the Antwerp pre-metro tunnels slated for 2026 and 2027, during which the tunnel between Central Station and Linkeroever will be closed for several months.
