Five suspects have been arrested in an investigation into the harassment of a prison guard from Beveren.
According to Het Laatste Nieuws, the federal prosecutor’s office has confirmed that four men allegedly acted on the orders of drug lord Flor Bressers. Among them is Reda B. from Antwerp, now 18, who recently challenged a house arrest imposed by then-mayor Bart De Wever.
The incident occurred at the end of January when security staff from Beveren prison noticed two young men behaving suspiciously in the parking area, hanging around a prison guard’s car. Police were alerted and detained the pair. For security reasons, a bomb disposal unit was brought in to inspect the vehicle, which was subsequently taken for further examination over fears it had been tampered with.
The investigation quickly pointed to Flor Bressers, who allegedly orchestrated the intimidation from inside his cell in Beveren, seeking retaliation for a disciplinary report the guard had filed against him. Five individuals were eventually arrested, including Bressers himself, already incarcerated.
Amongst the suspects is Reda B., who recently gained media attention for unsuccessfully contesting his house arrest imposed after his involvement in New Year’s riots the previous year. At the time, he professed his innocence through his lawyer, as the house arrest was prompted by the earlier incident.
