A shooting occurred in the Brussels municipality of Molenbeek around 17:00 on Wednesday, as several media outlets reported.

Shell casings were found on Rue du Niveau, where a vehicle and a house were damaged by the gunshots. No personal injuries have been reported to date, according to Laura Demullier, spokesperson for the Public Prosecutors' Office.

The incident involved three perpetrators, of whom two successfully fled. Their scooters were found on the street and were subsequently confiscated by the authorities. A third suspect was arrested on the scene, but has yet to be questioned by the police.

This was the third shooting in Molenbeek in the space of eight days. Molenbeek Mayor Saliha Raïss (Vooruit) condemns the incidents and has called on the federal government to tackle the ongoing drug violence in the municipality. "We did what we could do as a municipality. But that's not enough," she said.

Raïss also revealed that the recent shootings across the Brussels-Capital Region are related to each other. "These incidents are not isolated incidents: they are linked and move from one neighbourhood to another. What begins in Anderlecht ends in Molenbeek," she stated. "We can't continue to fight this with one-shots and temporary operations. Brussels deserves better. Molenbeek deserves better."

Vooruit politician and Anderlecht councillor Bieke Comer supported Raïss' statement, urging a "coordinated regional and federal approach, based on sustainability, prevention, and repression where necessary."

Technical investigations will be carried out by a ballistic expert and the Federal Judicial Police laboratory, to reveal the circumstances of the latest attack.
