On Wednesday morning, police discovered 1,225 cannabis plants during a house search in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw, according to police zone Lier on Thursday.
A 57-year-old man of Albanian origin was arrested at the scene. The search was conducted around 5:00 in collaboration with the Special Assistance Unit (SAU) Team from police zone Zennevallei.
An active cannabis plantation was found within the property, comprising four cultivation rooms spanning 135 square metres, all equipped with grow lights and ventilation systems.
The search was part of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking, which began after another plantation was discovered on 17 May in Lier.
The suspect, also of Albanian origin, has been interviewed by the police and presented to the investigating judge, who decided to detain him on suspicion of illegal cannabis cultivation, production of narcotics, and involvement in a criminal organisation.
