A person who was critically injured in a shooting at Place Lemmens in Anderlecht on Thursday evening has died from their injuries, the Brussels public prosecutor’s office reported on Friday.
“On Thursday evening, 7 August, around 20:00, a shooting occurred in Dauwpark in Anderlecht,” said public prosecutor’s office spokesperson Laura Demullier. “One person was seriously injured and later died in hospital. One person was arrested, and several bullet casings were found at the scene.”
The prosecutor’s office was notified and opened an investigation. The federal judicial police’s lab and a ballistic expert were called to the scene, and a forensic pathologist was appointed to determine the exact circumstances of the death and establish the victim’s identity.
“The investigating judge and the prosecutor’s office also visited the scene,” the spokesperson continued. “In the interest of the investigation, the prosecutor’s office will not provide further comment.”
