Over 860 of the 12,761 participants have so far crossed the finish line at the 56th Dodentocht (Death March), one of the most important European hiking events, starting and finishing in Bornem.
By around 12:30, the organisation reported over 800 finishers and 1,397 withdrawals.
Weather conditions are favourable, although temperatures are beginning to rise.
“As organisers, we are prepared for this with water points at every checkpoint to ensure participants stay hydrated,” stated Ilse Robyn from the organisation.
The Red Cross of Flanders has provided 1,178 treatments, mostly for blisters, muscle pain, fainting, or stomach and intestinal issues.
