A four-year-old child who was seriously injured by a dog bite on Friday evening in Essen, Antwerp province, is now out of danger but remains in a medically induced coma.
The incident occurred at the child’s family home, after which the child was taken to hospital in critical condition.
“I am unaware of the incident’s circumstances, but it happened inside the house. I can confirm that the child was transported to Edegem Hospital in critical condition,” said Rudy Verbeeck, head of the local police, on Friday evening.
Following a consultation between the mayor of Essen and a veterinarian, the dog responsible for the attack was euthanised, Mr Verbeeck added.
