A driver who evaded a police check in Liège on 5 August has been arrested, the Liège prosecutor’s office announced on Sunday.
The man fled on foot in Seraing after a pursuit during which he collided with another car.
The driver’s license plate had attracted the attention of a Liège police patrol on Rue d’Ougrée because it was stolen. The officers attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, but it fled the scene.
Alone in his car, the driver headed towards Seraing, pursued by the police, committing several serious traffic offences. In Seraing, he collided head-on with another vehicle on Avenue du Centenaire, seriously injuring a woman in her sixties. Firefighters freed her from the wreckage, and she was transported in critical condition to the CHU of Liège.
The suspect, born in 2003, then escaped on foot, leaving his crashed vehicle behind. A federal police dog and Liège’s Anti-Banditry Platoon (PAB) were deployed to apprehend him.
