A suspected cocaine user was detained in Wavre over the weekend after assaulting a police officer in the Walloon Brabant city. This was The Walloon Brabant Public Prosecutor’s Office reported on Monday afternoon.
Police stopped a pedestrian around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday on Rue Constant Deraedt in Wavre city centre.
The man, a 54-year-old resident of Somme-Leuze in Namur Province, resisted arrest and struck one of the officers.
He was immediately taken into custody but was later released after receiving a summons to appear before the correctional court in a fast-track procedure.
The suspect will face charges of resisting arrest and possession of cocaine.
