A man was killed and six others were injured on Monday afternoon in Fernelmont, Namur province, following a head-on crash between two cars, one of which had a UK registration plate, according to the NAGE fire department, confirming reports from several media outlets.

The accident occurred around 14:00 on Rue de Leuze. It is believed that the British driver had turned around in a car park and inadvertently drove on the left side of the road, as he would in his home country.

The oncoming car, carrying two adults and two children, could not avoid the collision, which was severe.

Three occupants of the UK-registered vehicle sustained minor injuries. The driver of the other car died immediately at the scene.

His passenger was also injured, along with the two children in the back seat, who were more seriously hurt.

The Namur public prosecutor’s office has dispatched an expert to the scene to determine the exact circumstances of the crash.
