A serious fire broke out Tuesday morning in the municipality of Koekelberg, at the rear of a building located on Rue François Hellinckx.
As a thick plume of smoke rose from the building, firefighters warned local residents to keep their doors and windows closed.
As a precautionary measure, metro and train services in the area were suspended, said Walter Derieuw, a spokesman for the fire department. "Rail traffic has been suspended between Brussels-West and Simonis stations," SNCB stated on its website.
Firefighters are working to get the fire under control. According to Derieuw, there are no injuries.
