The Brugge Council Chamber has conditionally released three persons suspected of involvement in a knife brawl at Brugge railway station, the West Flanders Public Prosecutor's Office said on Tuesday.

The three suspects had previously been fitted with electronic tags, but will no longer have to wear them.

The brawl occurred on the morning of Sunday 13 July, when two groups of young people clashed and the situation escalated into a knife fight. Two people were taken to hospital, but their lives were not in danger.

An investigating judge was appointed to look into attempted murder and assault charges.

Originally, five suspects aged between 19 and 20 from East and West Flanders were arrested. The investigating judge decided in the first instance to remand one of the suspects in custody and place a second under electronic tagging. A third was released on bail while the last two were freed after questioning.

A sixth suspect, a 19-year-old woman, was also placed under arrest.

On 18 July, the lawyers of the two individuals in custody obtained electronic surveillance for their clients. These two suspects and the remaining suspect under electronic tagging were finally released on bail on Tuesday.

The public prosecutor's office has indicated that it will not appeal this decision.
