The Ministry of Defence is allocating an additional €7.24 million for the renovation and widening of the taxiways to the runways.
This was announced by Member of Parliament Wouter Raskin (N-VA) on Wednesday to Het Belang van Limburg. The developments are coming on top of an investment of €300 million in the new compound for the F-35 and the renovation of the runway at the Kleine-Brogel military airbase.
The renovation and widening of the taxiways are necessary to ensure safe and efficient flight operations. It will also increase capacity. "This will make it easier for our Belgian transport aircraft, the A400Ms, to use Kleine-Brogel and to receive larger aircraft from strategic partner countries," said Colonel Davy Compeers, base commander at Kleine-Brogel. The runway heads and markings on the runways will also be renewed.
