Europeans and Donald Trump are "united" in their efforts to end the war in Ukraine, NATO chief Mark Rutte said on Wednesday after a telephone conversation with the US president.
Ritte described their conversation as "excellent."
‘The ball is now in Putin's court," he said ahead of Friday's meeting between the US president and his Russian counterpart in Alaska.
For his part, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stressed on Wednesday that Ukraine "must be at the table" for negotiations during the meetings that will follow Friday's encounter between Trump and Putin.
A ceasefire between Moscow and Kyiv must come first so that any negotiations can take place in the right order, Merz said after a videoconference with the US president, other key European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who travelled to Berlin for the occasion.
