The Bel20, the index of the most important shares on the Brussels Stock Exchange, reached a new record high during trading on Thursday.
After 25 minutes of trading, the index had risen to 4,768.00 points – well above the record high of 23 May 2007, when the Bel20 reached 4,756.82 points.
18 years ago, the peak was followed by an international banking crisis that caused stock prices to plummet. By 6 March 2009, the Bel20 had fallen back to 1,527.27 points.
