Customer growth at telecom company DIGI Belgium has slowed significantly after the launch months. The Romanian parent company reports that the operator had approximately 62,000 customers at the end of June – only 9,000 more than three months earlier.
This figure only includes customers on the mobile network of the newcomer to the Belgian market. The Romanian company is not yet releasing figures for the fixed network that DIGI is rolling out.
Figures and statements from competitors had already indicated that there was no massive influx at DIGI. Still, the company launched a competitive offer of €5 per month for 15 GB of data. In early June, a starter plan of €3 for 5 GB of data was added.
However, the launch was accompanied by customer complaints and management changes. In May, Federal Minister of Telecom Vanessa Matz (Les Engagés) criticised the operator and in June, the Brussels Enterprise Court convicted DIGI of failing to comply with certain safety regulations and permits in Brussels.
Last month, the parent company reported to its shareholders that it had implemented several restructurings with its Belgian partner Citymesh to simplify the shareholder structure. DIGI Belgium is 51% owned by the Romanians, while Citymesh retains 49%.
