Britain's Matthew Richardson set a new world record for the flying start 200m time trial on Friday in Konya, Turkey.

Richardson, 26, clocked a time of 8.857 seconds, 24 hours after becoming the first rider to break the 9-second barrier on Thursday (8.941). He had previously wiped the record (9.088 secs.) set by double Olympic champion Harrie Lavreysen (Netherlands) at the Paris Olympics off the record books.

The Konya track hosted three attempts at a world record on Thursday. While 28-year-old Briton Charlie Tanfield fell well short of Italian Filippo Ganna's UCI Hour record (56.792 km), clocking 53.967 kms, his compatriot Will Bjergfelt, 46, broke the C5 para-cycling world hour record, covering 51.471 km around the Turkish track.
