The price of natural gas in Europe fell sharply on the leading Dutch futures market, TTF, on Friday afternoon.
The price fell by around 4% to just under €31 per megawatt hour, its lowest level since April 2024.
The drop is linked to speculation about a possible ceasefire in Ukraine, with a possible easing of restrictions on Russian natural gas, according to analysts.
Crude oil also became slightly cheaper on Friday afternoon, with the price of a barrel of Brent oil for delivery in October falling by nearly 1% to $66.21, almost its lowest level this year.
