Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has now arrived in Washington, and stated on social media platform X that he wants to end the war "quickly" but with "lasting peace," just hours before a meeting with US President Donald Trump.
"We all have a deep desire to end this war quickly and reliably. And peace must be lasting," Zelenskyy wrote ahead of his meeting with the US President, which will be attended by European leaders who support him.
These include European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Trump also posted on his own platform Truth Social this morning, saying that "President Zelenskyy of Ukraine can end the war with Russia almost immediately, if he wants to, or he can continue to fight."
