Dubai police recover stolen diamond worth an estimated $25 million

Dubai police announced on Monday that they have arrested thieves who stole a rare pink diamond estimated to be worth $25 million, just hours after the theft, according to the official WAM news agency.

The thieves had asked a diamond dealer to take the precious stone to a villa for a supposed client, police said in a statement released by WAM. However, when the dealer arrived, the gang stole the diamond.

In under eight hours, three persons from an unnamed Asian country were arrested thanks in part to the use of the latest artificial intelligence technology, WAM reported.

Videos shared by the Dubai Media Office showed three men with their faces blurred after their arrest, as well as CCTV footage of the gang.

Dubai is an important centre for the diamond trade, and the United Arab Emirates regularly highlights the security prevailing there.
