Police in Blankenberge can now monitor the beach more effectively using live footage from cameras operated by the lifeguard service.

This new initiative, announced on Tuesday, involves three cameras strategically placed at the casino, the Beach Club, and Oosterstaketsel pier.

A collaboration agreement was signed by the lifeguards, Mayor Björn Prasse, and Police Chief Dimitry Van Damme, granting the police access to the live feeds.

The footage will enhance the police’s ability to respond to incidents, locate missing persons, reunite lost children with their families, and address other urgent challenges. “This is an invaluable asset during emergencies or investigations,” explained a police spokesperson.

The partnership builds on an already close working relationship between the police and the lifeguard service, which includes a direct communication line. Additionally, as part of the coastal crowd management “peak plan,” weekly meetings are held between the chiefs of the lifeguard and the police.
