German police stopped a drunk driver speeding at 220 km/hr on the A67 motorway, south of Frankfurt, on Monday night, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.

The driver’s blood alcohol level was recorded at 4.16‰, far exceeding the legal limit of 0.5‰. His driving licence was immediately revoked.

His passenger was also intoxicated, but their blood alcohol level could not be determined as the breathalyser maxed out at 5‰, police reported.

In Germany, operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol level over 0.5‰ is considered an offence. A level above 1.1‰ constitutes a criminal offence.

According to German automobile association ADAC, a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 4‰ can lead to coma or cardiac arrest.
