The well-known Brussels music café Bonnefooi has closed permanently as of 10 July after six years under its last management. A combination of factors, including a decline in visitors, ultimately led the owner to make the difficult decision to shut down.
Situated on Rue des Pierres, right in the centre of the city, Bonnefooi had become a fixture of Brussels nightlife. Since 2018, it had been operated by Christian Ducy, who told Bruzz that the business was "no longer viable."
High rents, rising costs across the board, and a steady decline in footfall rendered the situation unsustainable. Moreover, Ducy highlighted safety concerns around the nearby Avenue Anspach as another factor that deterred both staff and customers.
For years, Bonnefooi was a gathering spot for Brussels’ music scene, hosting DJs, musicians, and night owls in equal measure. A team of around ten staff kept the venue running, alongside countless artists who performed there, helping to cement its reputation as a cultural icon in the city centre.
The building, owned by brewer Alken-Maes, is now seeking a new tenant. The rent is €7,000 per month, plus approximately €410 in charges.
