Dozens of hot air balloons will take to the skies above the Belgian Ardennes this weekend for the International Festival of Montgolfières.
The festival takes place every August in Hotton in Luxembourg Province. This year’s event, which will be held from 22 to 24 August, is the 25th edition of the festival. It will be held on Oneux Island, which sits on the picturesque Ourthe river.
The festivities will kick off on Friday evening at 17:00 and run until late on Sunday.
Organisers have said at least 40 balloons will be launched during the course of the festival and they expect several thousand spectators to enjoy the show in person.
There are limited opportunities for people to hop aboard one of the hot air balloons for a 45-minute flight. An ascent will set you back €190 per person.
Weather permitting, five ascents are planned over the course of the weekend. There will be two on Friday (at 17:30 and 18:30), two on Saturday (at 06:30 and 18:30) and a final flight on Sunday at 07:00.
If you would rather keep your feet on the ground, there are plenty of things to see and do on dry land, including a hog roast, a bouncy castle and a craft market.
