Orange Belgium suffered a cyberattack in late July, granting unauthorised access to data from 850,000 customer accounts, the telecom operator announced on Wednesday.

No critical data, such as passwords, email addresses, or financial details, was compromised, the company assured. However, the hacker accessed a system containing information such as names, phone numbers, SIM card details, PUK codes, and tariff plans.

“Upon detecting the incident, our teams blocked access to the affected system and strengthened security measures,” Orange Belgium added. The company also alerted authorities and filed an official complaint with judicial authorities.

Affected customers are encouraged to remain vigilant against suspicious communications. They have been or will be notified by email and/or SMS.

The company clarified that this breach is unrelated to a recent cyberattack involving its parent company, Orange.
