A 69-year-old man from Halen lost his life on Friday afternoon in a traffic accident along the E314 motorway near Leuven, according to multiple media reports confirmed by the Leuven Prosecutor’s Office.
The incident occurred around 12:20 p.m. in the parking area of a service station in Rotselaar. Initial findings suggest that the victim was walking towards his car when he was struck by a lorry. Moments before, the same lorry had reportedly stopped to let another pedestrian pass.
Ellen Durie, spokesperson for the Prosecutor’s Office, said a traffic expert and a forensic pathologist had been appointed to look into the exact cause and circumstances of the accident.
The lorry driver, a 31-year-old man from Holsbeek, underwent a breathalyser test, which confirmed that he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
