Police in Lier, Antwerp Province, have arrested a man carrying significant amounts of various drugs after witnesses reported his erratic behaviour.
Officers were called to Nazarethdreef by concerned passers-by who saw the man repeatedly falling off his bicycle. Upon arrival, police found him lying on the ground next to his bike.
When officers attempted to check his vital signs, the man quickly got up but appeared unsteady and reluctant to cooperate.
The police decided to detain him for his own safety, suspecting that he was under the influence of substances. At the police station, he was found to be in possession of a substantial stash of drugs, including five litres of liquid GHB, 114 ecstasy tablets, 130 grammes of speed, over a gramme of heroin, two sniffing pipes, and two jars of sodium hydroxide.
Police also police seized the man’s mobile phone and cash, suspecting his involvement in drug dealing. Background checks revealed that he already had a history of offences, including drug-related ones.
The 43-year-old was subsequently remanded in custody by an investigating judge on suspicion of drug trafficking.
A search of his home did not yield any further discoveries.
