The United States has revoked the visa of Brazil’s Minister of Justice, Ricardo Lewandowski, an action President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has condemned as “irresponsible.”

Speaking at a ministerial meeting in Brasília, President Lula expressed solidarity with Lewandowski and criticised the revocation as a retaliatory measure by Washington. He linked it to Brazil’s ongoing legal proceedings against former far-right President Jair Bolsonaro, who stands accused of attempting a coup at the end of his tenure from 2019 to 2022.

“This act is unacceptable, not just against Minister Lewandowski, but also against Supreme Court justices and other prominent Brazilians,” Lula stated.

As of now, neither Brazil’s Ministry of Justice nor US authorities have confirmed the visa revocation. However, the claim was raised last week on the social media platform X by Paulo Figueiredo, a Brazilian influencer residing in the United States.

This development comes amid escalating tensions between the two nations, highlighting the diplomatic fallout surrounding Brazil’s investigation into Bolsonaro’s actions.
