Maintenance work on the Brussels Ring (R0) between Beersel and the Halle interchange, as well as on the A8 motorway in Halle, is nearing completion, according to the Flemish roadworks agency (Wegen en Verkeer).
Final asphalt and road marking work for the direction towards Brussels will be carried out on Thursday. During the night from Thursday to Friday, traffic signs related to these works will be removed, and three lanes in the Brussels direction will be reinstated.
Friday will bring smoother traffic flow towards Brussels. However, vehicles heading towards Ittre will face a reduced two-lane configuration for one additional day.
In the night from Friday to Saturday, temporary concrete barriers separating the traffic flows will be removed. “The final removal of road signage is intentionally planned for a weekend night to allow more time and space to temporarily shift all traffic onto a single lane,” explained the agency.
The R0’s roadway, which spans 3,500 metres in both directions, had been worn out by heavy truck traffic, resulting in cracks, bumps, and ruts. “The roadway has been sustainably renovated. Twelve centimetres of the existing asphalt surface were milled away and replaced with two new asphalt layers and fresh markings,” stated Carla Cox, spokesperson for Wegen en Verkeer.
Additionally, the lane widths, entry, and exit ramps have been optimised, enhancing both driving comfort and road safety.
