The 'Tram Experience' is back in Brussels with gastronomic journeys featuring dishes from some of Belgium's finest chefs, announced the Brussels-Capital Region's tourism agency, visit.brussels.

From Friday, 29 August, foodies can enjoy a gourmet restaurant experience while travelling across the heart of the Belgian capital.

The project originated from a 2012 collaboration between visit.brussels and the capital's transport operator STIB-MIVB. While the two set out to operate the restaurant on wheels for only a year, the culinary trips have been offered for over a decade now due to their success.

Every tram journey starts and ends at Place Poelart. There are two types of experiences available. The 'Tram' menu, which included a 6-course meal, costs €250 for a table of two and €460 for a table of four. This journey lasts 2 hours and is available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

On Fridays and Saturdays, there is a 'Experience' menu which includes a 7-course meal over the course of a 2-hour and 45-minute journey. This costs €300 for a table for two and €560 for a table for four.

This new "season" of journeys will end on 7 July 2026. The season will be kicked off by a menu crafted by Kevin Lejeune, the head chef of the newly opened 'Chaga' located at the luxury hotel Faubourg 21. His menu can be enjoyed until 12 October.

Lejeune will then be followed by other acclaimed chefs. From 14 October until 30 November, Manon Schenck from La Table de Manon will take her turn to dazzle the tram diners. Schenck will be followed by Brussels-based Grégoire Gillard, who will create a festive menu for the winter period until 1 February.

Until 22 March, Vilhjalmur Sigurdarson is returning to Brussels with the cuisine from his Ghent restaurant, Souvenir. Sigurdarson will be followed until 10 May by Isabelle Arpin, known for her work at Auberge de Leignon, near Ciney. Finally, the season will end with the duo Valerio Borriero and Klervi Poullain, who bring their experience with their restaurant La Flibuste on the Côte d’Azur to Brussels until 5 July.

Changes to the menus due to food restrictions or allergies are typically possible upon prior request. More information can be obtained by emailing the requests to tramexperience@visit.brussels at least 1 week prior to the dining experience.

The gourmet tram also offers a vegetarian alternative to the menu, which can be requested when making the online reservation. However, vegan alternatives are not available as they would "deviate too much" from the menu created by the chef, according to visit.brussels.

Notably, the experience does not accommodate wheelchair users. "Sadly, the model of this tram dates back to the 1960s and, as such, is not intended for this purpose...access to the tram and the space available on board are extremely limited," reads a statement by visit.brussels.

In addition, the model of the tram does not allow for children to sit comfortably on passengers' laps, nor is there space to add a baby's chair in the aisle. Due to this, the experience is not available for children who are too small to have their own seat. Additionally, there is no children's menu.

Reservations can be made online for two or four people. There is also an option to book a carriage (16 or 20 seats) or the entire tram (36 seats) for events.
