A new charity event, the Fairway Festival, began on Wednesday afternoon at golf club Drie Eycken in Edegem, Antwerp Province.
The festival supports two causes: the Emilie Leus Fund, which promotes awareness and prevention of drink-driving and road safety, and Alzheimer’s research conducted by the UZA Foundation.
This event builds on a similar one held two years ago in Edegem that centred around DJ Netsky and solely benefited the UZA Foundation. That edition drew 4,500 visitors and raised €32,000. This time around, the fundraiser supports two charities and boasts a much broader line-up.
On Wednesday’s schedule are performances by Bart Peeters and De Ideale Mannen, De Mens, Tourist LeMC, Compact Disk Dummies, Fixkes, and Mathieu & Guillaume.
“The enthusiasm from members, volunteers, and visitors was so overwhelming that we quickly realised we had to do it again,” said Luc Feremans, the festival organiser from Drie Eycken golf club. “This time, we opted for live music, with artists from the region or those connected to the club. That decision resulted in an impressive line-up that could easily fill a festival field.”
To align with the Emilie Leus Fund’s mission, the organisers are prioritising drink-driving awareness during the festival. For example, alcohol-free alternatives will be heavily promoted throughout the event.
