A 29-year-old worker from Mol, Antwerp Province, was rescued on Friday evening after being trapped in the gears of a wind turbine in Genk.
The accident occurred at a height of 100 metres while the man was working on the turbine for a maintenance company. He became stuck with one arm caught in the machinery.
Local police from the Carma zone conducted the initial investigation at the scene. The case has since been handed over to the Labour Inspectorate and the Office of the Labour Auditor.
Emergency responders, including firefighters from the East Limburg rescue zone, an ambulance, and a medical emergency team, were deployed at the scene.
Firefighters worked for several hours to free the man, finally lowering him to safety on a stretcher, using a lift, around 8:30 p.m..
Fortunately, no amputation was necessary, and the man was taken to hospital for further care.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
