A five-year-old girl is in critical condition after being rescued from a house fire on Sunday morning on Chaussée de Ransart in Gilly (Charleroi), according to the Hainaut-East fire service.
Firefighters, paramedics, and police were dispatched to the scene following reports of a fire that broke out on the ground floor of a residence. Emergency responders entered the house through upstairs windows to search for the child trapped inside. “Within less than two minutes, firefighters located and rescued the young girl,” said the Charleroi fire brigade.
The child was found in cardio-respiratory arrest. “She was immediately ventilated and given chest compressions by firefighter paramedics,” confirmed rescue officials. She was then rushed to hospital in critical condition for further treatment.
The Hainaut-East fire service added that the first responders, many of whom are parents themselves, were deeply shaken by the ordeal but continued to extinguish the fire after completing the rescue.
Traffic in the area was temporarily halted to allow emergency crews to operate safely.
