Proximus and the Gezinsbond have launched a campaign to encourage young people to reflect on their screen habits by challenging them to go offline for an afternoon.

The initiative, called “Digital Hide-and-Seek,” aims to raise awareness about the risks of excessive screen time and inspire teenagers to discover the benefits of living without constant digital interruptions.

According to the Gezinsbond’s latest Family Barometer survey, one in five parents is worried about their children’s screen use. This campaign is designed as a fun way to promote intentional screen-free moments.

Participants who sign up commit to turning off their smartphones completely on Wednesday, 24 September, between 13:00 and 17:00. This involves activating aeroplane mode and disconnecting from all Wi-Fi networks.

To test their commitment, Proximus will send a message during the four-hour period. If the message is delivered immediately, the participant is “caught” and eliminated from the challenge. Those who remain offline for the full duration will receive confirmation of their success and be declared winners.

Young people can also win prizes by sharing creative representations of their offline experience. More details about the challenge can be found at www.proximus.be/slimmeronline.
