A 71-year-old man died tragically on Sunday afternoon in a fire in Ghent's Sint-Amandsberg district.

The fire broke out shortly before 2 p.m. in a house on Dendermondsesteenweg.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and managed to extinguish the blaze.

Initial findings by a fire expert suggest that the cause was likely accidental, possibly a short circuit.
