The past month of March was exceptionally warm and sunny, as shown by the Royal Meteorological Institute's monthly climatological overview released on Wednesday.

The average temperature in Uccle was 9.1 C°, well above the normal 7.1 C°. With an average maximum of 15.0 C°, the first fifteen days were even the warmest since observations began in 1892.

The absolute peak was recorded on 9 March in Korbeek-Lo in the Flemish Brabant Region, at 21.2 C°.

Additionally, the sun shone for 196 hours in Uccle, making it the fifth sunniest March on record.

Moreover, the Royal Meteorological Institute (KMI) recorded only five days with heavy cloud cover, an absolute record since measurements began in 1931.

With 67.6 millimetres, slightly more precipitation fell in Uccle than average. Despite the predominantly warm weather, there was also room for a wintry spell: on 26 March, Mont Rigi was covered in snow 13 centimetres thick.
