The European Commission has released an extra €2 million in humanitarian aid for Cuba as conditions worsen on the island.

The money will fund logistics support for humanitarian partners delivering urgent relief, with a focus on distributing food and safe drinking water to the most vulnerable during Cuba’s energy crisis, the Commission announced on Wednesday.

The new funding brings total EU humanitarian support linked to Cuba this year to €6 million, after €4 million was approved earlier in 2026 as part of a regional Caribbean allocation that was dedicated mainly to increasing needs in Cuba.

EU officials said the latest support follows assistance provided last year after Hurricane Melissa caused extensive damage in Cuba.

Nearly €6 million was mobilised in 2025 for disaster preparedness and emergency response in Cuba, the Commission noted.

The additional €2 million will help keep aid supplies moving to up to two million people in need, Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib said.
